Getting to the root of the matter

The Roots of Ancient Egyptian Beliefs & its impact on Religions

Egyptologist, Professor Wassim El Sissy got to grips with the ancient roots of modern day belief systems, at a lecture given to CEBC members on 15th February 2004. The renowned Egyptologist came to the Canadian Embassy to speak on the impact of Ancient Egyptian beliefs on the major religions today.

In what turned out to be a truly fascinating lecture, Professor El Sissy pointed to the striking similarities between Ancient Egyptian practices and beliefs, and those associated with modern day Islam, Christianity and Judaism. What, he asked, are the connections between the Holy Trinity of Christianity and that of ancient Egypt, represented by Osiris, Isis and Horus? Is it true that Ancient Egyptians fasted for forty days after which they set off on a pilgrimage to a key religious site? Does the word "Amen" said at the end of prayers in all three religions today, having any connection with the God, Amun Ra, Father of the Gods in Ancient Egyptian Mythology?

After the lecture members had the opportunity to the renowned professor about his extensive research into this subject. Held in the atrium of the Canadian Embassy, this event was a real success.
